Reaxys PhD PRIZE 2010

The Reaxys PhD Prize will be awarded for original and innovative research in organic, organometallic and inorganic chemistry, which demonstrates excellence in methodology and approach by a candidate currently studying for a PhD or having completed a PhD within the last 12 months.

What is the prize?

The Reaxys PhD Prize will be awarded for original and innovative research in organic, organometallic and inorganic chemistry, which demonstrates excellence in methodology and approach by a candidate currently studying for a PhD or having completed a PhD within the last 12 months.

Three prize winners will each receive a check for $2000 and be invited to present their research at the Winners’ Symposium to be held at the EuCheMS 2010 meeting in Nuremburg.

What are the rules?

Candidates must be nominated by their PhD Supervisor and the submission accompanied by a letter of recommendation from the supervisor, one representative peer-reviewed paper (published or in press) and a C.V. including a list of other publications which are based on the candidate’s work.

Letter of recommendation : This must be written and signed by the candidate’s PhD supervisor. In an objective way, the citation should give a detailed justification for the nomination. It should also give concrete examples of how the candidate has demonstrated originality and innovation in his/her work combined with accuracy and a disciplined approach to the Scientific Method. It should also certify that the candidate is currently studying for a PhD or has completed it within the last 12 months, and is able to communicate effectively in the English language.

Representative paper : Only one paper may be submitted. It must be published or accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed international publication. The paper should be substantially authored by the candidate based on work that he/she has conducted as part of their PhD research program.

Curriculum Vitae : Listing academic qualification, experience and any other papers that the candidate has authored or made a substantial contribution to and that could be supportive of their nomination should be listed in a publication list.

Submission and review criteria:

Candidate currently studying for a PhD or completed their PhD within 12 months prior to Feb. 28 2010.

Originality and innovation of research and approach

Importance of, and interest in, the published research

Evidence of disciplined approach and methodology

Publication quality

Clarity of written article

Evidence of systematic and relevant background research of the literature

Supporting evidence (ie letter of recommendation and publication list)

Second Advanced Summer School will be organized by JINR in May 2010 in Dubna-Russia

Within the frame of the signed agreement between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt) and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR-Dubna, Russia) the Second Advanced Summer School will be organized by JINR in May 2010 in Dubna.

The topics of the School are the following:

1. Grid computation

2. Ion beams and application in Nuclear and material science

3. Reactor and neutron physics and application in condensed matter

A limited number of young scientists and engineers (MSc, PhD) from Egyptian universities and research centers will be selected.

Traveling tickets and accommodation will be provided to the selected candidates according to the signed agreement. The selected candidates will have the opportunity to participate joint research projects partially carried out in Dubna labs.

International Summer School in “Advanced Topics in Cell Model Systems” - 17/02/2010

Dear All,


We are pleased to invite you to attend the third edition of International Summer School in “Advanced Topics in Cell Model Systems” to be held in Rome-Italy from 6th-11th June 2010 at the “Tor Vergata” Research Establishment of the Italian National Research Council.


The aim of this school is to support early pharmaceutical research by training young post-PhD investigators, by promoting the exchange of knowledge, supporting skills and know-how and providing access to various technologies. During the course target groups of approx. 12-15 young post-PhD students from all over world will brought together.



The course will impart the latest theoretical and practical aspects on cell model systems, it will positively encourage discussion and exchange of ideas between the post-PhD students, the speakers, and the scientists of the research establishment.



The “Tor Vergata” research establishment has a unique set of advanced instrumentation and technologies providing a strong technical infrastructure for our Summer School. It combines world-class advanced sensors; precise analytical methods; techniques to prepare membrane models; enhanced imaging capabilities; and sophisticated computational tools for characterizing and modelling cells.



An annually published brochure of the latest developments, the lectures given and the practical exercises will maximize the knowledge transfer to a wider group of interested scientists.
