North Carolina Center for Public Health Preparedness (NCCPHP)
This site offers free short Internet-based trainings developed by the North Carolina Center for Public Health Preparedness (NCCPHP) on public health preparedness topics such as disease surveillance, basic epidemiology, bioterrorism and new/emerging disease agents.
Trainings address emergency readiness competencies plus core public health and epidemiology competencies. Free continuing education credits (CEUs) for trainings are available. More information on receiving CEUs is available on the cover page of each training.

Ø Open the limits page in PubMed and ensure no limits are already applied. (All the limits fields should show the default settings.)
Ø Enter the search term “lancet” in the empty search query box.
Ø Set the field to search in journal and then perform your search.
Ø Display the abstracts of the results you found.
Ø Are they all in the Lancet?
Exercise 2
Ø Open the limits page in PubMed and ensure no limits are already applied. (All the limits fields should show the default settings.)
Ø Then set to limit the search to “Children from 0-18 years old”.
Ø Enter the search terms “malaria AND mortality” in the empty search query box then click on the “Go” button.
Ø Display your results as citations and sort them by publication date.
Exercise 3
Ø Open the MeSH Database.
Ø Type schistosomiasis in thesearch query box and click on “GO”.
Ø Select the hyperlink for the schistosomiasis MeSH term.
Ø Select to “Restrict to Major Topic Headings” and the Subheading for etiology.
Ø “Send to Search Box with AND” and “Search PubMed”
Ø Display the articles found in the citation format.
